After several months of extensively using 3 different sharkskin lines, I have the following review:
Hi, I have fished with it extensively for several months, and in several different line weights. In importance:
First off, you WILL notice a difference in your casting.
A 80 foot cast with a regular line will become a 90 foot cast with SS
Second, these lines will FU** THE CRAP OUT OF YOUR FINGERS!!
Thirdly, expect the lines to be very unstable. I had my local fly shop put a shock tippet on 3 lines, every single one of those lines has either had
a) the loop break, then the nail knot break the line, about 10 times so I have lost about 5 feet of my very expensive line
b) lost the loop, and then had the line break at the nail knot
C) didnt have a break, but the part of the braided loop where the line doubles back and ends, starts to peel up toward the loop, about half a inch
Thirdly, it does a very good job of floating high and and is easy to pick up off the water. It is easy to mend.
In conclusion, From extensive trout fishing, even baby trout and stripping line in will do serious harm to your fingers. The only use for this line is tournament casting.
Almost forgot about the "whistling" noise, since in my mind it is so trivial. I can't believe people are complaining about this. Maybe I just have bad hearing or am used to crying babies. It is nothing. Get over it.
From what I can tell everyone who uses this line is getting it either for free or for $25 from SA (you would be surprised how many people get it from them at this price.)
