The Northern California Fly Fishing Board

Did a 1/2 day float trip with a really nice couple from NY yesterday. Fished from about 9 until 2. They were new to the indicator nymphing style of our Western big rivers, but learned very quickly how to handle things. By the end of the (half) day, they had hooked close to 30 fish, including a few double hookups. Three or four fish were landed on egg patterns early. The others were on nymphs. From Cypress down, eggs didn't work as well as bugs. By the end of the trip, we had switched to nymphs exclusively, and they were eating both flies equally. Some ate the new 'big bug' we're using here, and some ate the 'little bug' that always works here.
But yesterday was maybe the best fishing I've seen out there in a while. The water is still off color, which helps a lot I think.

Don't forget about this gem when you're done with the crowds and boats on the T. Flows are 3,400 cfs. The lowest I have ever seen it.

How's the bridge at cypress? I floated it in the middle of december. Is it worse?

The bridge passing is basically the same as it's been all winter. They added the upstream work platform, so it's actually 3 bridges now. The flows have dropped to 3,400 cfs, so it's slower water as you enter.

I usually pick my way thru depending on where I want to fish below.... I actually haven't used the channel they want boats to go thru yet.

However, when the flows come up to 10k, it's gonna be one of those "okay now DUCK" as you go thru!
