fishing near Eureka 17 Years, 5 Months ago
Hello,

I'm living in Western Montana with my fiancee. I lived for a year in Arcata (about 6 years ago, before I got into flyfishing)- I have always wanted to go back there to visit.
I'm wondering if there is any good fishing during late spring/early summer months in the area. I would love to plan a trip around that time next year, and even the possibility of getting into some fish would give my fiancee incentive to come with me!
Any info./suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thank you!

Late spring and early summer is a bit tough for fishing in the area. There is a possibility of cutthroat fishing, but generally that is better in summer from what I understand. I think spring is a good time for fishing the surf. Hopefully, Jeff L. or Blaino will chime in here with some info. I live in Arcata, but only during the school year, so I don't fish late spring/early summer. You might try calling the Eureka Fly Shop for information on fishing opportunities that time of year. They are always very helpful.

If you're going to drive, you might also try to sell him on a couple of stops on the way out...there are a number of stellar spots between where you are and Arcata to fish.

Thanks everyone for the advice...I'll definitely call the fly shop in Eureka before we head out.
The steelheading sounds amazing- unfortunately, our schedules will limit us to a quick late-springtime trip this year.
Since we're driving, I think we'll get into some trout if we do a little exploring. That's a big part of the fun of fly-fishing, anyway!
Thanks again for the ideas. We're both very excited to get out there. (Winter in Montana is pretty harsh and very looonng....)
