After living in WIndsor, the Russian River, Santa Rosa and getting ripped off by the cable companies, I decided when I moved to Fairfield I was not going to get cable again and try this new fangled Direct TV. Direct TV was $29.95 for everything except premium channels, cable was more than $50 for basic cable, and if I wanted ESPN, I had to pay more, cable didn't even have ESPN 2. That was more than 10 years ago. I will never go back to cable, I would quit watching TV if I had to use cable.
Direct TV channels are grouped better, the remotes change channels faster (quicker surfing), more channels with good fishing shows included in package, and they have real human customer service agents that answer the phone. I have XM radio, and Direct TV also plays most of XM radio channels. Set up on Direct TV is easier. I did my own set up rather than wait 2 days for an install crew. It took me longer to get out the ladder than set up the programming. Just point dish, fine tune the aim, and watch the TV. I haven't converted to HD yet, but Direct TV is completely HD now, for a couple weeks it was actually getting to be a pain in the butt because they would keep adding channels and I would have to block them out on my TiVo. Direct TV now has DVR and HD-DVR packages. When my Tivo takes a dive, I will upgrade it too.
I have friends that have Dish, everytime I go to their houses remind me why I stay with Direct TV.
