DishNetwork versus DirectTV? (totally non-FF) 18 Years, 1 Month ago
|
|
|
...sorry for the non-fly fishing post but it's come to my attention that I can save (maybe) $20 a month going with satellite tv. So what should I get - DishNetwork or DirectTV? Anyone have a recommendation?
Thanks in advance!

I should be but I had to reschedule for the 26th-29th. SST is fishing for me this weekend with report to follow. Let me know if you're thinking about heading out after xmas.

Well, I have had Dish Network for about 6 years and I like it alot. The only problem I've had has been when I have to get up there and clean the snow off the dish to get my picture back, but I'm sure it won't be any different with DirectTV. Just make sure they install the dish in an accessible place for the cleanup! I have checked it out in comparison with DirectTV and they are almost identical. I guess maybe check out the programs you want available and the costs and jump on that one.

P.S. If you have an HD TV, get the HDMI cable to plug into the box. It makes a BIG difference in the picture (you have to buy that one yourself at Walmart). Don't let them try to sell you one at a million dollars.

Go with direct tv. Direct tv has more hd channels and a better selection. My brother has direct tv and my friend has dish. It seems that the dish hd signal has alot of interruptions in signal.

My parents have had both; I will ask them for pros and cons. I know with Dish Network (what they have currently) they got one of those DVR's, and they also got more of the channels they wanted and more of the HD channels they wanted. A lot probably depends on the channels you watch and what packages the satellite companies offer.

Happy Direct TV customer for 10 years 18 Years, 1 Month ago

After living in WIndsor, the Russian River, Santa Rosa and getting ripped off by the cable companies, I decided when I moved to Fairfield I was not going to get cable again and try this new fangled Direct TV. Direct TV was $29.95 for everything except premium channels, cable was more than $50 for basic cable, and if I wanted ESPN, I had to pay more, cable didn't even have ESPN 2. That was more than 10 years ago. I will never go back to cable, I would quit watching TV if I had to use cable.
Direct TV channels are grouped better, the remotes change channels faster (quicker surfing), more channels with good fishing shows included in package, and they have real human customer service agents that answer the phone. I have XM radio, and Direct TV also plays most of XM radio channels. Set up on Direct TV is easier. I did my own set up rather than wait 2 days for an install crew. It took me longer to get out the ladder than set up the programming. Just point dish, fine tune the aim, and watch the TV. I haven't converted to HD yet, but Direct TV is completely HD now, for a couple weeks it was actually getting to be a pain in the butt because they would keep adding channels and I would have to block them out on my TiVo. Direct TV now has DVR and HD-DVR packages. When my Tivo takes a dive, I will upgrade it too.
I have friends that have Dish, everytime I go to their houses remind me why I stay with Direct TV.

Direct TV all the way. I am a huge hockey and cricket fan. I get the NHL network in HD at no additional charge plus the ton of aforementioned HD channels. And I got an international dish at no extra charge and I get 4 channels of cricket!! Dish Network offers no overseas broadcasting whatsoever. I don't know if Dish Network offers the Center Ice package, but Direct TV does and now all those NHL games are in HD. Nice!!

Thanks everyone for the info.
Interesting about the overseas broadcasting. I wonder if they offer any BBC broadcasts? I'll have to check that out.

DirectTV has FF Masters 18 Years ago
|
|

They have Versus the channel that carries the NHL and has a lot of fishing programs including the FF Masters series a while back. I think DirectTV doesn't have Outdoor Network (I believe it's available on the highest package) while DishTV does. I have the middle package w/ DirectTV and it's all the TV I can watch.
Get HD if you have a TV with that capability and definitely get the DVR. It's worth it many times over and easy to use. Just make sure they wire it so you can get one channel and record another
