Good Grief guy... seriously? Glad to see you are really keeping score.

I'm trying to learn from Carpy, so I'm not going to try and justify my existance to you or prove my worth. Folks that know me wouldn't make comments like yours, so it just means that you don't.

Try to be lighthearted and some first time poster comes out of the woodwork to try and take you down a peg... I guess we have to take the bad with the good in this kind of forum.

Hugs and kisses,

Bjorn

That's the one you're barking up. Bjorn is a truly conscientious guy, more than qualified to write about conservation. The fact that he also is a hell of an angler does nothing to diminish that.

Well, there's always Joe Tomelleri:

And Russell Chatham donated a piece of art to CalTrout via his gallery:

Ditto with Parks Reece:

And Charles Lindsay--check out the stuff from Upstream (follow the 2000 link).

You're entitled... 17 Years, 5 Months ago
to an opinion.

IMO, you've posted an innoucous comment and you're entitled to such. It seems that the point you've mentioned has been summarily dismissed and you, as being totally uninformed and out of the loop. Some may even view one or two of responses as too defensive or maybe a bit arrogant. Geez, you may be new to the board and Bjorn's own innoucous comment was reacted to by you too seriously. Another optional response could have been what qualifies Bjorn to write a conservation column and why he is the apparant in-house expert of such. Maybe this info is somewhere found on the site.

I concurr with the others that he is very conscientious and well informed. But there may be others, including myself, who may be interested in the info on what qualifies him as the conservation columnist for the Board.

Please, don't let the response to your first post discourage you...new voices are what makes this BB fresh, otherwise it can get stale. I'm thinking that as long as you're civil that you're comments, input and opinions are very welcome. I sense that you're passionate about our mutual affliction...as are most on this board.

I welcome you!

I love talking fly-fishing. So, if you want some info on fly angling my "home waters" in the Truckee area, do not hesitate to contact me off the board; whether by phone (530-587-7333) or e-mail (cyberfly@cyberfly.com). Please be patient relative to a quick reply; most especially during May-October.

My latest crusade is limiting undo fly fishing guide impact on the Little Truckee River. This small venue is being abused my commericial guiding interests. Consequently the fishery is being abused, IMO, most especially by guides to the detriment of the fishery. Moderation is the key in usage.

During the last two seasons I've diplomatically mentioned to many guides that they should coordinate with others guides so that they minimize impact...it has been to no avail. Some entities are more guilty than others; weather independent or "stabled" (outfitter or fly shop). So I've just started taking this public. Any civil suggestions/comments on limiting guide impact would be appreciated.

NOW FOR THE SPAM!!

Simply, I'm a fly fishing junkie. In 1984, in order to justify my addiction, I started Thy Rod & Staff in Truckee; the longest existing, fly fishing guide service in the Tahoe area and possibly one of the longest in California. I'm an independent; so the "buck stops with me". I tailor trips to the specific desires and skill levels of the client; no "my way or the highway" guiding.

Simply, experience counts folks! 2009 will be my 26th year exclusively as a professional fly fishing guide in Truckee. As long as I enjoying the interaction with other passionate fly anglers and/or those new to the sport; my service will continue into the future. I also "host" fly fishing club outings.

Encouraged by clients & family I started the Reel School of Fly Fishing in 1996. There are scheduled one & two-day clinics through-out the "general" season; entailing a maximum 3-to-1 attendee-to-instructor ratio. Now, since the season if open year-round; I have a scheduled snow-shoe/fly fishing group-outing during March.

Again in 2010 I will be "hosting" two groups at a private lodge in Chilean Patagonia; located 2+hours from Coyhaique, Chile. The lodge accommodates six (6) fly anglers only. It is located in an isolated river valley (40 minute jet-boat ride down river...no roads). From my past experience in this area, I'm guessing it is like Montana was 50-60 years ago....far-far-away from the "real world". Inquire for specifics, I will be going there every year. I've arranged with the lodge for some incredible pricing for two "hosted" weeks in 2010. Also I can arrange other stays and special pricing...contact me.

How about Dan Rickards? He has a gallery in Sisters, OR, that features his work as well as the work of another 4-5 artists. We purchased a couple pieces in there. His wife Julia runs the gallery.

Hey Frank, I wanted to answer your question about what qualifies me to write a conservation column. I work for Friends of the River, a state-wide river conservation organization. I've been with them for about two years now. In my position I am a fundraiser, but I am often in contact with the issues and experts that give me a good deal of background on some of the issues of the day. I am not the expert, I'm just a guy that cares about the issues. If folks have topics they want covered, let me know and I'll do some digging and put something together. I recently asked a friend of mine to put together something on the Fall River, something he has a particular passion about, but I don't know a whole lot about (both as far as the issues involving runoff and siltation and the fishing). I hope that helps.

Rock Snot 17 Years, 5 Months ago
Bjorn---I appreciate the info...as may others. I would suggest that your position at the Friends of the River would put you in constant touch of the pulse of fishery-conservation issues at the state, as well as national levels. I acknowledge your good works & dedication. Keep us informed and the board up to date on the issues.

What is the latest on didymo (aka...didymosphenia geminta or simply "rock snot"as it affects California fisheries?

Steering Committee Backgrounds and Rock Snot 17 Years, 5 Months ago
Frank,

You can read more about any on the Steering Committee, including Bjorn at the following link:

http://www...Members/menu-id-157.html

Also, you mentioned Didymo. Dawn wrote a brief article featured on the home page recently:

http://www...g-Didymo/menu-id-84.html

In this article Dawn referenced an excellent write-up on this subject:

There real story...

Phil walked into a bar with a steering wheel sticking out of his pants.
The bartended said "hey Phil, do you know there's a steering wheel sticking out of your pants?"
Phil answers "of course I know, it's driving me nuts!"
