The Northern California Fly Fishing Board

Just finished reading a book I stumbled on a couple of weeks ago: Dangerous River by R.M. Patterson. I believe it was first published in 1954, it is his narrative of two trips he took to the Nahanni River in the Northwest Territories. Not a lot of fishing (basically mentions some fish that were caught) but some great canoeing, snowshoeing, trapping, hunting, and fine writing about the whole experience. Tons of fun. In the same vein, Sea Runners by Ivan Doig. No significant fishing, but if the thought of paddling an open canoe from Sitka Alaska to the mouth of the Columbia River in the 1850s sounds interesting, give it a look.

One of the few Ivan Doig books (if there are even a few) that I haven't read. Got to know him back when I worked at Penguin, even had the opportunity to break bread with him when he was in Berkeley doing a reading back in the 90's. A great guy, fine writer. And he also was the reader on the unabridged audio of A River Runs Through It I listened to once. I'll pick up a copy of Sea Runners.
