GWWF Foundation 17 Years, 6 Months ago
Wow! I just read the article on the Golden West Women Flyfishers and their scholarship award to Dawn. I'm really impressed at their history and achievements. They give scholarships to students committed to the environment and conservation, and they fund education programs for kids. Sheesh, their In-School Aquatics project is working to preserve native steelhead fisheries in the East Bay. I think this is a worthwhile organization to support.

Anybody like the idea of fundraising for the GWWF Foundation at our next Bash?

Like you, I was impressed as well. But sad to say, rumor has it (not really a rumor) that GWWF dropped their in-school aquatic program for one reason or another, leaving the surrounding clubs to pickup the slack or void that is left. Perhaps they should update their website to reflect that as well. This falls under the what have you done for me lately category and should not distract from the their accomplishments.

I am curious why they dropped the Trout in the Classroom program.

Yes, they have stopped their trout in the classroom programs. The Grizzly Peak Fly Fishers in the east bay have picked up most of those programs. John Davis heads up this program for GPFF and says they now have 20+ classes going. If you live in area and want to get involved, check out their website.

Possible Article? 17 Years, 6 Months ago
Hey Trouttickler - would you (or someone from GPFF) be interested in writing an article on this? I think people would be interested in knowing more about it. It would also give more exposure to something that's very worthwhile. We could publish this on the Front Page of the site.

the infrastructure to support worthwhile programs is still there. After reading the article on GWWF and the subsequent post by Trouttickler on GPFF picking up the classroom piece, I wonder how many other local clubs are doing worthwhile programs that should somehow be recognized.
