Regular Trout Season Closing 17 Years, 6 Months ago
Closing day, at least for me was about as perfect as it could be. I finished it out in the same place it started on the NFF. I fished right where we camp every year for the opening day mimi bash. The beatis were comming off in the gliding run just above the camp site. With the water lower you had to make the casts perfect or the fish were not going to take. This is pretty much my favorite kind of fishing so I just took it easy and waited them out. In about 75 yards of stream I was able to hook about fifteen fish. Of course all the big ones got away, but I was able to trick them into eating my fly. The size #20 hook doesn't stick them every time.

This was a year of a lot less fishing for me due to my sore knees. I made a point of only fishing at the best times and conditions I could get. We smacked them good on opening day this year. I also had some very good evenings on the NFF throught out the spring and early summer.
I only got up to Downeyville once this summer but it turned out to be perfect timing.

Aplers and the East Carson fished really well just after the 4th of July. The east Carson is now a must on my to do list. I just love catching browns on dry flies. Alpers was better fishing then in the last few years. We missed out on the Goldens this year. The great fishing right on the ranch made up for that.

The MFF was awesume for the Velma May hatch with bigger and more fish during this hatch then at least the past five years.

Our trip to Dunsmuir kind of got rained on to much but we did mamage some nice trout out of the upper Sac. The rain forced us to head over to the Mc CLoud river to try it below Mc Cloud res. I han't fished there before. I'll definately be going back. Throwing #20 dry flies to selective trout was about as much fun as I could ask for.

The steelhead thing isn't working out on the lower Feather, at least not yet. There are still the winter firheries out there to keep me from going stir crazy until next year.

I hope you all had to good year too.

Hey Dale!

It was great to finally fish with you on the NF Feather! Hopefully, I will get a chance to do it again next year.

Great summary of your year of fishing Thanks for sharing!

You never step in the same river twice.

You're gettin old - just admit it.... 17 Years, 6 Months ago
And get in the old float tube like Dick 'Stillwater' Rivers and me!!!!!!

Tried to call the other day but you probably out fishing.

Stillwater, Jeff and I had a pretty good trip to Crowley last month. Slow trolling in the old tube and hooking 20+ inch fish sure beats the boulders of the NF (At least as far as my sore ankles and knees are concerned).

Give me a call and I will give you a report. Would like to hear how your upper Sac trip went.
