Credit Card Fraud Warning, PROBABLY not FF related 17 Years, 6 Months ago
A Cautionary tale:

Earlier this week, I was looking at my credit card charges on line, to see if a particular charge had shown up. I noticed a charge I did not recognize. It was for $59.99 on 30 Oct, and the merchant was IP-olnsupplier. I still don’t recognize it. A quick Google turned up some complaints about that merchandiser. Puzzled, I kept looking, paying more attention now. Three days earlier, there was a charge of $1.95, again from IP-olnsupplier. On the 30th there were two other charges: BMC Mystery Guild and BMC Children’s Book Club that we don’t know about.

My wife insists she did not order anything on line. I have not recently made any purchases on line, and was in meetings all day on the 30th. We both still had the physical credit cards.

It looks to me as though someone got access to the number, ran a very small charge on the 27th, waited for repercussions, and then on the 30th went on a bit of a spree.

It is a bit confusing, because the books from the two book clubs arrived yesterday at my home address, which is different than the billing address of the credit card. I refused delivery of the packages.

The only reason I post this here, is that I spent the 21st through the 25th in Redding and Lewiston, and used that card in a lot of places I usually don’t use it. and I know some of you have been there lately.

Specifically I used it at

The Fly Shop
Motel 6 South Redding
Lewiston Valley Motel
Lumberjack Restaurant, Cypress St, Redding
Guadalajara Restaurant, Cypress St Redding
Sunset Market Rt 299 Redding
Valero Gas station, Rt 299, Redding
Mountain Valley Grill, Lewiston.

I am not alleging that any of those places have anything to do with this, but they are the places I used the card that are unusual for me.

I also bought gas in at the Valero in Santa Nella, and the Pilot in Corning.

The bad guys are out there. Watch your credit card statements. Oh, I cancelled the card within an hour of noticing the disputed charges.

Tight Lines,
Ed

Fishhawk,

Dispute the charge. Just call the Credit card company and dispute it. hope you have something from Priceline. Eternal Vigilance....

I had the same thing happen with prepaid rooms from Priceline this summer. We stayed in SFO at the Omni for 4 days. I contacted the Omni directly and accounting promptly made the adjustment. In this case it wasn't a stolen cc # but it's always good to keep an eye on your accounts.

I called the hotel and they reversed the charges.
