Just a picture to share 17 Years, 10 Months ago
I've been wanting to share this picture I found for quite some time. Since I'm not hanging around quite as much as I used to (too many irons in the fire) I always seem to forget. Anyways...it kinda makes one stop and think.

Ya'll have a great weekend!

Cheers,

It's working :) 17 Years, 10 Months ago
I removed the "size=" on the img tag. I'm glad you posted that particular picture - I'll use this example to tweak the picture upload so it's easier next time.

Awsome, Thanks Greg! 17 Years, 10 Months ago
Do you know why it's so large (in dimension)? The actual image is only about 2.5"x3" or so. It's interesting that it would upload so big.

Over the past 5 years I have been collecting various articles, studies, pictures, etc. from various publications which talk about environments which have changed over the past 100 years. Alot of them have then and now pictures. When re-looking at all of these articles, publications, and studies juxtasposed againts one another...it's alarming! Kinda. Our environment is changing. There is absolutley no way to prove that it's not. It's a shame for sure.

In reality I'm on the fence as to whether, in the grand scheme of it all, if that is really a bad thing. The Earth, it's various environments, and multitude of species have been changing and adapting for millions of years. I think we are just excellerating (sp?) the process. But in the end, a balance will be found, new environments will be in harmony, and the worlds remaining inhabitants/species will have adapted and be able to thrive within it's new surrounds. At this point though...it's all a question of where/what/who it will remain.

O.k...enough waxing theoretical poetics...I gotta get back to work.

Note how they left a stand of trees along the road up above to hide ther tracks!
I thought the logging companies had stopped clear-cutting long ago in favor of selective cutting???

It's kind of hard to tell where this picture was taken and when. the caption under the picture said it was in Finland as a result of downfall from Huricane Kartina. It just does't add up. That's not downfall for sure. But I still think that it's an interesting picture.

I have an uncle who is a logger in the Upper Penissula of Michigan. We talked one day about clear cutting vs. selective cutting. According to him, under federal law loopholes(now realize this is 2nd-3rd hand information) it is selective cutting when you clear 4-5 acres of timber while owning 5000+ acres of standing timber. I'm sure Jeff L. or perhaps Dawn might be able to provide a bit of insight. I traveled to the extreme back country of the chetco watershed several years ago. I can honsetly say that I seen swaths of hillsides way back there that were still being cleared. Although you could tell it was selective clearings.

I just don't know very much than the average person about logging practices.
