It's kind of hard to tell where this picture was taken and when. the caption under the picture said it was in Finland as a result of downfall from Huricane Kartina. It just does't add up. That's not downfall for sure. But I still think that it's an interesting picture.
I have an uncle who is a logger in the Upper Penissula of Michigan. We talked one day about clear cutting vs. selective cutting. According to him, under federal law loopholes(now realize this is 2nd-3rd hand information) it is selective cutting when you clear 4-5 acres of timber while owning 5000+ acres of standing timber.

I'm sure Jeff L. or perhaps Dawn might be able to provide a bit of insight. I traveled to the extreme back country of the chetco watershed several years ago. I can honsetly say that I seen swaths of hillsides way back there that were still being cleared. Although you could tell it was selective clearings.
I just don't know very much than the average person about logging practices.
