Eagle Lake 17 Years, 6 Months ago
I'm starting to think about a trip to Eagle Lake. I've only fished there once - in the summer a few years ago. Hoping to get some input on flies, locations, timing, techniques etc.

Should we hire a guide?
Is Jay Faire still around?
Is there a better area to stay in/around (rent a cabin?)
Wiggle tails and wooly buggers...any thing else?
Floating lines? sink tips? "slime" lines?
Do you need a boat/float tube or can you fish from shore?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes Jay Fair is still kicking and is still the best guide for that area.

I usually rent a cabin in Spaulding, prices are reasonable.
The motel there did not have television the last time I stayed there 10 years ago.

Rust colored wiggle tails are still a good choice.

I use a floating line. usually you are fishing in water less then 6 ft deep.

From a boat, float tube, or just wading the shore are all productive methods. The fish will be in the tules.

Good luck
