I have placed ice or a small block of the reusable blue ice on the ferrule that would not give, esp. on a hot day after I put the rod together in the relative coolness of the morning. Lay it on a stable surface, give it a few minutes to cool (and contract?), and then try pulling apart again. Has worked for me several times.
