North Fork Feather report :pic: 17 Years, 6 Months ago
I went out again to collect Sacramento pikeminnow and hardhead for my study. I was joined by my friend Diane. We had a terrific weekend fishing, hanging out, and enjoying the beautiful scenery. We caught no fish unfortunately. I think the cold weather and rain turned off the minnow bite. I saw one adult minnow, but I couldn't get a bite. The trout bite appeared to be on though. We saw lots of nice fish rising for caddis. I was focusing on getting minnows, though, and I didn't try for the trout as tempting as they were. I might as well have, since I got skunked. Sometimes, I guess it isn't as important to catch the fish as it is to be where the fish are.

I will be out on the North Fork Feather for the next two Saturdays if anyone wants to join me or say hello.

Here are some pics from the weekend:

Gorgeous fall colors in the canyon:

Snicker begging for a stick to be thrown:

Hey Dawn,
I was up in Dunsmuir this weekend. I'll be trying to get up the Canyon some more as the season ends. Maybe I'll see ya there.

How did the pix of the Velma Mays come out?

BTW I got an 18 incher right after you guys left the other day.
Would you know it?

Velma mays :pic: 17 Years, 6 Months ago
Hey Dale,

Yep, it figures that we missed the big fish. Dang! I got a few shots of the velma mays before my camera batteries died. This was probably the best shot:

I did a report earlier in the week. It has the velma may pic and a pic of the parasite I found in the fish that willie caught:

I will keep an eye out for you. It looks to be nice weather for the week! Thanks for your help last weekend!

I can see you're getting used to that new camera! Sorry you didn't get fish...I'm sure the weather didn't help much.

Nice photos...I'll be getting up there on Nov 10,11. Hopefully the fish will be active, I will be bringing a first timer with me....not the ideal time of year for training, but it'll do.

Will you be camping? It has been pretty cold at night (bring lots of firewood!). The trout fishing has looked great; it's the minnow fishing that has sucked. I won't be fishing that weekend--something has come up, and there is an event I need to attend that weekend. I bet you guys will have a terrific time. I can't wait to read the report.

Nice Pictures Dawn. The Canyon is certainly beautiful right now....as is much of this area. We looked for you Sunday as we drove up the Canyon from Chico. We were down there for our daughter's engagement party and to see Bill Cosby. Great weekend but we must have come up the canyon after you left. I may have free time next weekend, so possibly will see you down there.

Be well,
Michael

So when is your daughter's big day?

The weekend was gorgeous. I usually try to leave early enough on Sunday so that I don't have to drive over 299 in the dark. I will keep an eye out for you over the weekend. I will be fishing along the river somewhere (or everywhere) on Saturday. I only have 2 more weekends to get out.

Hey Kelly,
How's the Bay Area treating you? How about those lasers?
Maybe we should turn the Nov9-10 dates into another mini-bash?
