Buy your brother the most expensive outfit you can afford 17 Years, 6 Months ago
after all, he is your brother..and if he doesn't get bitten by the bug, then you have a nice outfit for yourself.

Hey Carpy... 17 Years, 6 Months ago
How come your post doesn't show up on the thread so I can answer it with everyone else's?

My answer would be: I wanted to buy my brother what he deserved, but WalMart was out of their fly rod/reel/flies $20. combo.

Anyhow, define "afford". If it means, the best I can buy for him, even if I have to give up a fishing trip, hey, forget that!

I bought him a TFO and nice looking large arbor reel, backing and a cheapy Cabelas line. I don't need the rod if he doesn't want to use it. I'm totally covered for all the rod weights I'll ever need (except a 14 wt.) in the 9-9 1/2 foot length. Now I'm working on those 11 footers.

How about I buy him the most expensive rod that YOU can afford. Donations will be readily accepted. (Actually, Mom, my youngest brother and Aunt Harriette are also pitching in.)

Warren will be very happy and surprised by his 3 wt. He'll like it even more when he hooks into a 4 pound rainbow on a size 24 nymph. EVERYONE hooks up on the San Juan!

I'll post a report on that January trip.
