Whadayya doin? I take a hiatus for a couple of weeks and you move right in and usurp my crown! Well, this ain't over yet.I still have a list of plenty of folks who have never met me yet hate my guts.

P.S. The hiking prep for my Wyoming trip is going well, but it was really tough knocking this middle aged body into shape, tougher than it's ever been before. I'm taking your advice and NOT allowing myself to get back out of shape after WY. It's just tough working the necessary exercise time into my schedule.

Ha! All I was trying to do was bring some of the old board stylie back. Seems I didn't do so well eh? Boards succeeed because they have different opinions, but this place seems hell bent on bringing everybody inline. Funny because it isn't even the nice folks who run this place(dawm, GM) that do so.

Its the close mindedness(bushism) that gets me. If ya disagree say why. If ya agree say why. Seems to me this place has turned into a locals hangout, and then there is another more select locals hang out. I hate that more than anything. So you know some spots in Norcal. Great. Big fish in little pond. Guess if ya don't have the imagination to look beyond CA thats all ya need.

Hiking in Wyoming? Dude, thats why god invented drift botes. We are looking at a 5 day float end of June ifn ya can tear yourself away from the trin steelies for one trip!

Yeah, Ed, I know it's all downhill from here. I'll just do my best to make it a slow spiral rather than a nose dive.

ST, I'm not sure what you're alluding to, but I just can't see hiking in the Wind River Mountains with a drift boat. A 35 pound backpack will be quite enough.

As for the NCFFB, there are still plenty of folks who have something worthwhile to say here. I try to inject a little humor from time to time, ask questions that might also help others and contribute when I learn something new.

My sense of humor might raise a few hackles, but I hope that the slams I receive are mostly (partly?) in fun.

So, where ya goin' and can it really compete with the pristine lakes and streams of the glacial peaks of Wyoming? I'm hoping for a 20" golden trout, but any golden trout up there is a beauty to behold. Each one is a piece of art.

By the way, if you do not already own it, I highly recommend the book "Wind River Trails" by Finis Mitchell. Finis was truly an "old man of the mountain" and knew the Winds like no one before or after him. I had the great fortune to trade letters with him prior to my trip (and his death) back in the 80's. I have a personally autographed copy along with some trail notes and several flies he gave me.

It was Finis Mitchell who turned the well-known phrase "Take only pictures, leave only footprints."

No time to read a book before I leave, but I'll put it on my very long "to read" list.

You're right about the 35 pounds, especially with my photo equipment. I once got my pack down to 45 pounds, but after yesterday's killer hike at 6,200 feet with 25 lbs., I have a new incentive, especially when you consider we'll be starting at 9,500.

Just set your pace slow and short the first couple of days until you acclimate, then push it up a notch or two...

Yup, Pinedale.

I'm going with 2 guys who have been up there a number of times, so the trip is kind of "guided".

I don't get to set the pace though. One buddy is older than me, but he lives near the mountains and hikes daily. The other is an EMT/Firefighter and is a hiking animal.

Our first day will be a 10 mile hike to our first base camp. Hence, my desire to push myself now and not hold them back during that hike.
