It is tough to debate folks that just say they don't trust science... that is true... and I'm not a scientist, so I have a hard time coming up with scientific responses... with this issue though there seems to be a really good body of knowledge that spans a significant period of time and a pretty large number of scientists... from Europe to the US, the conclusions seem to be the same. To argue against it you would have to believe in a massive conspiracy against fish farms, which seems a bit far fetched, although talk radio lives on that sort of paranoia. I heard a saying once that men are capable of dreaming up vast conspiracies, but only of executing half-vast ones. I like that saying.
I think it's important to remind folks that it isn't the greenies/crunchies vs. business... this is business vs. business. The fish farms are putting fisherman, lodges, tourism dependant business at risk. These are folks that are hard-working, bootstrap kinds of folks who aren't asking for hand-outs, they just don't want their livelihoods destroyed.
