Scary stuff if... 18 Years, 2 Months ago
...it can be believed. Unfortunatley, I'm sceptical of both sides (scientific community & commercial). The scientific community has proven itself to be just as politically/self interested as the corporate world. Once again, a lack of intergrity leaves me wondering.

Long live the Salmon!

True - but I'd like to error on the side of caution in this one. Pretty interesting series of videos though.

Oh, the issues are real and the harm being done is real. The science is solid. This has been a real emerging issue for several years and the adverse impacts of fish farms are well known.

This issue is having a real impact on the Babine and the steelhead in the whole Skeena system.

How do you rebuff those that say 18 Years, 2 Months ago
the science is flawed?? Bjorn, I'm being the devil's advocate here only. One of the kid's friends only spews forth minutia he hears on a popular radio talk show- some guy that lost his hearing from excess usage of hillbilly heroin- oxycontin. The sad part is this young guy has a one track mind and not open to any other ideas and votes and of course the radio talk show is still on the air.

It is tough to debate folks that just say they don't trust science... that is true... and I'm not a scientist, so I have a hard time coming up with scientific responses... with this issue though there seems to be a really good body of knowledge that spans a significant period of time and a pretty large number of scientists... from Europe to the US, the conclusions seem to be the same. To argue against it you would have to believe in a massive conspiracy against fish farms, which seems a bit far fetched, although talk radio lives on that sort of paranoia. I heard a saying once that men are capable of dreaming up vast conspiracies, but only of executing half-vast ones. I like that saying.

I think it's important to remind folks that it isn't the greenies/crunchies vs. business... this is business vs. business. The fish farms are putting fisherman, lodges, tourism dependant business at risk. These are folks that are hard-working, bootstrap kinds of folks who aren't asking for hand-outs, they just don't want their livelihoods destroyed.

Hey Gitt,
I never said the "science was flawed." If you believe that ALL scientists are only interested in scientific data and have no interest in keeping their respective grants, or funding, you're naive.

My point was with the lack of intergritiy on BOTH sides these days, it is sometimes hard for the laymen to know who to believe.
this young guy has a one track mind
Wow Gitt, from a simple statement you've determined my age and political beliefs...Why yoooou're amazing.

That's it. I'm starting my own board and Gitt, you're NOT invited.

Buddy, please don't flatter yourself by thinking that I was referring to you. There is nothing wrong with being a skeptic. Go back and read my original post. I was referring to my kid as in part of my immediate family unit. He has a friend that likes to argue the points I had mentioned. Its not really arguing but regurgitation with his hearing turned off. Well, at least it appears to be off, because he starts getting louder and louder in his spew fest. I guess the loudest one wins according to his rules. Its not even a conversation or exchange of ideas with the fellow I was referring to (again my son's best friend). Now, if you feel you are this guy, would your name be Jared as well?? I didn't think so as he is also a nurse and part time hockey player- go figure. He has no time for fishing. My apologies if you thought I was attacking you indirectly. Now don't get me started on my nephew who barely made it out high school and now home schools his own kids and is pissed because neither he or his wife possess the required teaching credentials.

BTW, I will be hurt if you start your own private board and I am not invited. ;^) Have a good weekend and may the fish gods look upon you with kindness and not too much fish rejection.
