Gear and beer.....too cool! Reports have been trickling in that some fish are being caught in the lower river. I even heard one decent report with double digit numbers. I have not got the rod dusted off yet, as I'm sure fish are a week or two away up in Princeton and above.

Been shad in the Sacramento River down low for over two weeks
Lots of 20 + fish days, and even a few bigger numbers days
Even a few bigger fish in the early runs

I'm actively sympathizing on the gas money . . . it takes me most of a half-tank just to get to Verona and back.

Verona treated me well earlier this week, and it really seemed like good numbers of fish were on the move. Will they be at Rd. 48 by Mother's Day?

RAS, if you can give any word of Rd. 48's shaddability, by post or PM, I would really appreciate it. I'm thinking of heading that way in the coming week, and trying to maximize the gas dollar and minimize my shameful carbon footprint.

Was able to get out last night. 13 fish for 2 of us in a little more than 1 hour of fishing. Beware of the rattle snakes.... they are starting to move around

Re:GOT SHAD ? 18 Years, 3 Months ago
The fishing must have turned on! Do you mean Monday night? I was there and saw only two other guys, so maybe you were the one with the silver truck. The report I heard from John, an old Willows local, was that he got one and the other guy got three -- and the other guy had been fishing since I arrived around 4:30.

I got none, and that's how my luck was going. Tuesday I did some whitewater kayaking and then went to Verona, and caught one nice hen before losing my anchor on the bottom If anyone sees a red and white float bobbing around when the water comes down, grab your free sliding-catch anchor . . . .

Four or five big campers were pulling in when I left Rd. 48 Tuesday morning. Wouldn't surprise me if the fishing turns on big time, soon. Since I was skunked, I had plenty of time to notice how nice it was to camp there in the cooler weather, and see deer, beaver, osprey, ducks, hares, etc., and hear the coyotes at night. No snakes as of yet.

Well the stimuls check showed up, so now I can fill the tank and head north!
I plan to head out at O-dark thirty Monday morning, with stops at Verona to search for lost anchors and fish!I may go look at the Feather near Gridley, the Oroville Wildlife area, used to be great for Shad..
May stop on the Sacramento near Princeton and then up to 48
Beer and Gear ready,

I think you're thinking good thoughts, RAS. Some good news has reached me about areas of the Feather further up from Verona.

I might be at 48 Monday or other days next week if the fishing is on. Look for a black toyota with a red Arsenal sticker on the back, and let's talk shad over a beer!

For people who don't know anything about sports, Arsenal is an English football team who led the league most of the first half of the season and was ultimately beaten down by extremely poor or corrupt referees
