The shad can't make it over the falls at Shanghai Bend because the flow is too low so I would skip the Gridley and the Wildlife Area. I heard from a guy that they are stacked up by the thousands below Shanghai. Jeff C.

I don't know exactly how to get there. I think access is from the Marysville on the west side of the river. Maybe FRG can chime in and give you directions. Jeff C.

You can access from either the Marysville or Yuba City side. MOST access from Marysville side, so it may work out better to access from Shanghai Bend Road in S. Yuba City off of Garden Highway.

Use Google maps to locate roads...

You're the guy that I heard from, that heard from a guy I didn't want to give away any details you might consider precious so I just said "above Verona." If you're up there checking it out personally Jeff, as one suspects, let us know what you find. Lots of shad? Crowded scene? A place to launch a little blowup kayak and creep off for some semi-private shadding?

Hey Eric!

I'm not going snooping on the Feather when there's shad right in my back yard. Here's what the guy said Tues. evening:

10 guys total fishing from the clay banks around the rapids and a couple of boats anchored downstream. He said he fished below the rapids but above the boats. I guess if boats can anchor there you should be able to anchor your kayak there too. Good luck!

Don't blame ya one bit! I think your backyard is usually nice and cool, too -- a good thing to be standing up to your waist in cold water on a day like today.

Looked like it might be a good tide on my own backyard this morning, but I couldn't find any stripers in my corner of the bay. They are probably all up in your backyard

Hey Pit Boss , A beer on the bar Monday night sounds good.I'll be in a white toyota with a shell..could be two white toyotas and a blue one too,if everyone shows up.If the fish are there we plan to camp at 48 through the week.
Jeff C. thanks for the information. You know your right, the best fishing I've had on the Feather was on high water years(at least 10k cfs) and then have the water drop a bit mid May.
I have fished at Shanghai Bend a few times.not an easy drift/swing if you can't access the "point" at the downstream end.(west side of river)And there's allways somebody there. Also have seen some large salmon and stripers come out of Shanghai during the shad run.
255.4 miles, three days and a pile of gear to sort!

I missed Rd 48 last night, having started my trip a bit early . . . but Saturday it was more or less on fire. 90 minutes or so passed without not getting a pluck or a fish on every cast. Cooler tonight, and I'm on my way down to see how it's fishing this time

It's been slow on the American since Friday. A few were caught on the lower river over the weekend. Maybe they moved up river a bit. I heard that they are up to Goethe now. The flows are going up to 1500 cfs tomorrow. This may bring more fresh fish in or cause them to move to the upper river. Jeff
