Hawaii FF Question 18 Years, 3 Months ago
A buddy in my fly club is heading to the west side of the big island with his wife. I offered to loan him my 10 wt., but when I asked him about lines he was clueless. At that point I figured I'd better get some info for him on species, lines, flies and locales.

Any info would be appreciated.

A steelhead fly fisherman needs two qualities:
A strong casting arm and a room temperature IQ.

If he's going to be stalking around some flats, the 10 wt will help with the wind. Floating line. Straight 15-20 lb leader... altho I tie on 25 lb Amnesia and loop 15 lb leader onto that. Gotchas and Bonecrushers in #2, 4, 6 should do it for bones. Clousers let sink and then fast retrieve for trevally. where to go?? I dunno... haven't fished the Big Island.... cant get away from the volcano and the coffee plantations.
