You want to support the Boy Scouts, do it. I won't... my brother is a former eagle scout but now is barred from participating because he's gay and that bunches my panties... but that's my decision. I like trout and rivers, so I support Cal Trout and Friends of the River. We don't get federal or state money to do our work, we get money from people with interests and passions aligned with our own.
In a country like ours, if you don't support causes and issues that you care about it means that less action is taken on those very issues.
And that, is my lecture on how the great American tradition of philanthropy works. Please form an orderly line to tell me how wrong I am. Thanks.

Bjorn,
Only one quibble with your monotribe - your brother IS an Eagle Scout, not a former Eagle Scout.
(unless something formal was done about it, that is.)

Yeah Ed, I paused briefly over that, actually. He did accomplish that, but the organization would not allow him at any function if it knew more about him. I don't think he's as mad at them as I am, oddly enough. So, we'll say that he IS an Eagle Scout and if they want to take that away, they'll have to ask for the badge back themselves.

I guess we don't. To each is own, but that's the great thing of this country, right?!?
x BT45: sorry man, but I have no time or will to go through the whole sell out to American Whitewater Association of a couple of years ago.
How are their calendars anyway these days?

It was an honest question. Don't people that support CT gets calendar and/or stuff like that? Just asking how they are. But if you like to play the big bad boy of the board you go right ahead. Like I said, I have no time or will to discuss anything related to an organization that I can only define laughable.
Have a nice day.

Wow you are truly bent on something.. I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. I do not belong to CT or American whitewater, I have no affiliation with them at all. In fact before 10 minutes ago I knew very little about either organization. I just looked up CT and can't imagine a fly fisherman would have anything negative to say about them. After reading their mission statement and checking out some of the projects they support and have proposed I am thinking about joining. I see there is even a spot where I can send someone a gift membership. I think I will sign you up.

I thank you, but I don't believe they want my name associate with them... me, if I get the calendar with it, I'll take it! Then I'll send it to troutnut... now THAT is a kodak moment I would like to see!

Oh, I think most environmental organizations are re-thinking calendars... wasteful... not sure if they still send them out... I haven't received one as of late and I'm still a member... or at least I'm pretty sure I am... I'll have to check.
