Mad Max Fishing 18 Years, 3 Months ago
I stumbled on this while perusing a southern california water blog. To me, it is not just sad, but nearly frightening to think that we could all be brought down to this level of "outdoor recreation" some day. If we take away all that is natural, this is what we will get.

Even more boggling to me is the way they seem to sell it as a beautiful outdoor experience. How I pity those poor people that live such urban lives that fishing in an concrete canal is portrayed as a "getting back to nature" experience. To me, it looks more like the end.

HA! That does suck. But on the other hand, he seems to find enjoyment in it. I suppose there could be worse hobbies to take on in so cal.

Thanks for posting the link.

dont knock it till you try it. I have a couple of friends that grew up in the valley and they said the striper fishing was awesome.
They also said that they use to drive their trucks down the canals and waterski behind the truck.

We,(my drunken college friends and I) used to water ski behind a truck on the western canal south of chico. I have it on video somewhere. I think there was usually alcohol involved

I know. I know. You're right, of course.

But at least it has a riparian zone, a little gravel, and some benthic life still. I just can't imagine fishing a concrete channel. I guess there wouldn't be as many snags.

shopping carts, bodies, urban trash, car bodies, construction debris,,,etc..

I found it funny that they had recipes..I would not even consider eating a striper out of that sewage drain.

despite being socal aquaducts, many of these aquaducts are in norcal as they make their way down south. and many are in areas less urban than redding.

I Thought that would be all ag. water. There's no denying that he's caught some damn BIG fish in there. Big enough that for a few seconds you might forget about your surroundings.
