The Northern California Fly Fishing Board

I live 15 minutes from the Yuba River so I go there often. I have noticed many new, fresh redds on the Yuba since the first of March. The resident trout are spawning now and you can see them. The trout appear to be spawning in a little shallower water than these earlier redds. Do the steelhead spawn at the same time as the resident trout? Could these early March redds be from Sacramento Squawfish? I did see salmon for the first time in February, maybe the salmon could be spawning then? It is sad to see people tromping right through the redds no matter what fish they are. With these low flows the redds are very susceptible to damage from our boots. Thanks in advance for the fish spawning education.
