a.k.a. Gollum. Well, its been a while... 17 Years, 11 Months ago

Found out last May that I had rectal cancer. Did manage to go fishing over on the upper Owens 2 weeks before surgery. Did pretty good. Figured I'd better get in one 'last' fishing trip (when they roll ya under them big lights and the anetheseologist(sp) leans ove and says 'are ya ready to go to sleep', well, ya just never know!). Anyway, I woke up 4 hours later, about 5-6 pounds lighter (doc removed 10 or so inches of the lower plumbing, cremated it, and rerouted the rest) and in a haze that lasted 2 days (The 2nd day in hospital, I reminded my wife that we should barbeque them Moose steaks we had in the freezer--don't know where that came from, never had any Moose steaks in the freezer; those drugs they give ya do some funny things). Anyway, spent 3 days in the hospital, and 4 weeks on sick leave, and now I'm back at work. Prognosis is good--it was a T2 tumor (scale T1-T4, T4 the worst; simply removed--never had any Cemo or radiation, phewww). Hope ya all had a good fishin season.

"Rivers course through my dreams, rivers cold and fast, rivers well-known and rivers nameless, rivers that seem like ribbons of blue water twisting through wide valleys, narrow rivers folded in layers of darkening shadow, rivers that have eroded down deep in a mountain's belly, sculpted the land, peeled back the planet's history exposing the texture of time itself."
— Harry Middleton (Rivers of Memory)
"Each night as I haul myself onto the back of county garbage truck no. 2, there is a familiar wind, some thread of moonglow or starlight, a splatter of dark rain on my skin, something that stirs my memory, and again, if even for a brief moment, I am on some mountain river, some stretch of bright water, full of possibilities, including the possibility of trout, perhaps one that, when hooked, will haul me in and out of time, in and out of life's mysterious and frightening, wondrous and incomprehensible continuum, even to the edges of the universe." -- Harry Middleton

No kidding it's been awhile. Glad to hear you came thru that experience just a couple pounds lighter. It may have felt like 5 -6 lbs, but they do pressure wash the system prior to removal so it couldn't have been more then a pound or so when empty.
take care

Sorry to hear about the medical issues. Hope you're feeling better soon.
Regarding the left over incinerated material...too bad the doc burned it 'cause around here you may have been able to sell it as fly tying material.

Hey TD,
I'll be headin up to Red Bluff on Oct. 30. Planning on fishing the N.F. below Cresta by the tunnels on Friday morning. Any thoughts on how the river will fish, flies to bring? Las Vegas is experiencing a bit of a drought in the construction arena. 12 years here, and still no trout sightings in the local area. Didn't make it to Utah this year, but did spend 3 day over in Mammoth area last July.
