The Northern California Fly Fishing Board

Joey and I hit the Yuba on Friday from 2:30 to 7pm. We were supposed to go to the FFF conference but I decided to go fishing instead. Water was low and clear. We saw a few dead Salmon and a couple moving up river. We fished the Marysville side downstream about a mile up to the bridge. We fished globugs, stoneflies and nymphs. I tried a zonker for a while and we did not have any success. It was nice to be on the water again and I though it was a great day of fishing, just the catching could have been better. Only one or two cars at the bridge. Saw a few guys fishing the Grass Valley side close to the bridge. There was a hatch coming off as we were leaving and they appeared to be some 16 caddis and 18 mayflies. No fish seen working the hatch but the swallows had a field day.

Hey Joe,

Good for you, glad you are getting out their to fish with your son. It has been a long time since my last fishing trip, let me tell you . A lot of changes for Dana and I however in the Ward Household. Dana and I are new grandparents as of about 3 weeks ago ! What an amazing experience that has been. Our daughter blessed us with a healthy baby boy . A couple weeks before that our oldest son and his wife moved back in with us. We are very happy to be helping them get caught up financially so hopefully they can look to buy a house before long.

Work has been keeping my super busy as well. I am going to post a few pictures here before long on a streambank protection project we have going on up on the Mad River where I was up for a few days this last week. Overall life is very good just not quite enough time for fishing at the moment but that will change at some point. I still have tremendous fond memories of our great Alaska trip last year !

Hey Bill,
Glad to hear they are keeping you busy enough to stay out of trouble. Congrats on your new grandson. Won't be long before you are showing him the ropes. Thats great that your eldest moved back home. Now you have someone give your honey due list and get out fishing. Joey won a Sturgeon trip at the ISE show last year and we are heading out tomorrow O dark 30 to Pittsburg for some Sturgeon fishing not on a fly. I'm taking a few clousers and 7wts in case we can try for some Stripers. Take care and keep in touch. Keep August 09 in the back of you mind.
