Another Upper Sac Report 18 Years, 1 Month ago
Well, today was one of top 5 days of my Upper Sac fishing career. I only fished 4 hours, two hours in the morning and two in the afternoon. I fished near and below Prospect. I actually fished the same water both outings. All the action was either on a dry or dry/dropper (with the dropper being the best producer). Dry was mostly a #12 Royal Wulff with a #14 Dark Lord or BHPT.

The fish were not large... maybe 13" was the largest, but most fish were around 7-8". What they lacked in size they made up for in numbers. I landed 30 in what was a rather welcome return of Bjornian numbers.

The key was hitting every bit of likely water with a good drift. Good times, good times.

In between fishing I went to my parent’s place and played with grandpa and my daughter. Can’t really get better than that. Had dinner tonight with just the wife and I at Café Maddalena… good food. Love that place.

That’s probably the last cast for me on this trip up North here. It’s been a good trip.

Now that is the fish count I like to see!

I'm surprised the fish are so small. It seems like much bigger
fish were being pulled from the Upper Sac in early spring. I saw
a few posts with some pretty decent sized fish a month or two ago.
Maybe the little guys come out more during hotter weather?

Hope you were using a 3 wt!

Nice report....seems you aren't having much trouble getting out
these days Bjorn! And even with child! Way to work it.

Well, when you go high-stick dry, or dry/dropper in pocket water you are going to have more fish, but you are going to have smaller fish. That's the general rule for me on the Upper Sac. I went for hook-ups not rod bending.

I was actually using a 4 wt, TFO.

My wife went on up to Oregon and my folks were doing the baby-watching, so it was ideal.

Ah ok....I thought the Upper Sac was turning into a dinkfest or somethin.
Glad it's not. I emailed you several weeks ago...fished the SFA at
Chili Bar a ways above where you IK'd. Not a lot of fish, but a few nice
ones. You are right..very, very strong fish!

Gotta love it when the grandparents watch the kid. My son is flying to
Germany (11 years old) shortly for 3 weeks to spend some quality time with
his grandparents.... and the wife is leaving to Cancun for
10 days around the same time. Since I'm out of vacation, I'll just have
to fish all day on two consecutive weekends. Bummer!

Maybe I'll hit the Upper Sac and see if I can better your numbers.

Thanks for the report Bjorn!

Kind of a fun place to fish, eh? The SFA. Kind of unexpected.

Enjoy the weekend fishing. It's so different to fish now post-baby. I so seldom get hours and hours to fish. Fish like it's your job!
