fawn snatchin!? sheesh you make it sound like I plucked the deer from it's mother and carried back to the campsite. The fawn followed us. It was emcaciated, could barely walk, and looked like it had been laying there for a few days.

I definitely see your point, and of course we considered the option of the mother still being around. Eventually it had been around the two campsites and the dogs where it was too late anyways. At that point, it would have been inhumane to leave it there.

Someone should call up the campsite. Usually places where deer are around, like deer creek have signs saying stay around from deer fawn. Like the previous poster said the mothers leave the fawns alone, but if a human comes along the mother will not come back for the fawn. Worse yet, deer are so plentiful, there are not place that you can take deer that will take them. If you see a fawn and approach it, you are signing its death warrant, and their arent any animal shelters that will take deer (according to signs at deer creek).
