i think it's definitely a dry fly rod - one that demands a very slow, "bambooesque" casting stroke - it will collapse if you try to cast it like today's faster rods. and not ideal for casting a lot of weight, indicators, 2-fly rigs. etc. do some searching around the web, you'll see this series is pretty hard to find, has a bit of a cult following, and is either loved or hated - apparently still being sold in japan? ask you friend if you can borrow it and make some casts - think about how you'll be using it, then decide - like i said, if you like it, plan on using it primarily for dry fly fishing the price is good. btw you neglected to mention the length and line weight..
