like any rod - CAST IT FIRST - especially this one.
i am a HUGE winston fan, own way too many of them for my own good - but never liked the DL4 series.
it was discontinued fairly quick after hitting the market. i think it was an early winston attempt to put a little power in the butt, but still retain a soft tip to protect fine tippet - someone once told me it was an attempt to get a bamboo feel from a graphite rod? i test cast one a few times when it first came out, and my experience with it was that is was too stiff on bottom and WAY too soft on top - not much feel - and again, I LOVE winston's. of course that's my subjective experience, if you can, go cast it a bit. $225 is a fair price if you love it, but it's a waste of money if you don't.
