Finally got out fishing, Pyramid Lake Report! 17 Years, 6 Months ago
Hey Folks!

It has been a long time between fishing trips for me and I finally got out for the first time this year getting up to fish Pyramid Lake on Thursday and Friday of this last week . Brian ORourke, a good friend of mine I had met through a board event a few years back, had been inviting me to join him for some time and thank goodness I finally made time to make it up there with him. We also got to fish with Greg Sano another board friend on the second day when he joined up with us.

It was my first experience fishing Pyramid and it was a terrific one . Brian and I were probably both just into the double digit numbers in terms of catching fish on both days. Midge patterns under indicators were probably the top producer for both of us while we also caught some nice ones stripping in wooly buggers or beetle patterns with sinking lines. We fished most of Thursday and about a little more than half a day on Friday. Greg stayed there after we left and I heard he did really well for the day.

Here are a couple pictures from our trip. Boy I can really kick myself for not catching that water spot on my camera sooner ! That spot ruined several great shots I took on that first day and I included a few here anyway. Even Dana couldn’t totally fix them although she did improve them some.

Thanks again Brian and Greg for the great time!

Best Wishes and tight lines to all !

Brian hooked up with one of the first fish Thursday morning and nearly to hand

One of the first fish in the net with that dad gum water spot on the camera messing things up !

Other than the water spot on Brians face a beautiful Pyramid Cutthroat!

Another of the first few cutthroats Brian landed

Me enjoying the action as well

A smaller pyramid cutthroat to hand!

Greg Sano with one of many he hooked on Friday!

Greg with another one to the net

The ladder line up off to my right on Friday except for one guy in a small boat!

My biggest fish on Friday, nice picture taken by Greg!

There were a handful of pelicans flying around looking for a fish lunch!

One of the pelicans swimming among all the fisherman!

Hey Brian, many thanks for the great trip and lesson on how to fish Pyramid! I had a great time. Greg, it was great to see and fish with you as well on Friday.

I hope that fishing trip gets me going now!
Best wishes to all the board members out there!

Ps. News Flash ! Our bands new CD will be here in less than a week and it is really going to be something special !! I plan to put out a little post about it when it gets here.

I was there all last week. Wish I knew you guys were going to be there. Don't recognize your location. Which beach/location did you fish? I stayed mostly at pelican. Crowded, but good fishing (all but one day when it was calm and warm). Friday WAS a great day. Howling winds (especially late morning and into aafternoon), big waves, LOTS of fish. Indicator fishing excellent, but stripping also worked well.

Thanks for report.

Great report, Bill. Glad to see you finally got out!
I want to fish Pyramid, but it really looks like I will need to get a bigger net. Of course, buying a new, bigger net to handle all the BIG fish I am going to catch will completely jinx my ability to catch said big fish.

cool report! and some great pics.... so whats the deal with those ladders? why not a float tube? i have neither, so im just curious. are those ladders just normal ladders? or actually something bought specifically to fish lake shores? ive never seen a ladder set up off the shore of a lake like that.

I may not look graceful when I fish, but I sure feel good after doing it

Hi Folks,

Thanks everybody for checking out my post and pictures, It is always fun to share a great new experience like that and I sure did enjoy the trip . Now I need to make sure I dont lose a lot of time before making it back out to fish again.

Hey Charlie, it was good to finally get out and get some for a change . Hope all is going well for you and Patty.

Betty, we fished at a beach just beyond Pelican coming up from Reno. Dont know the name of it but it was a lot less crowded. We could see lots of folks fishing at Pelican! Sounds like we had very similar, very good fishing! Sorry I missed you up there .

Hey Lee, always good to hear from you ! Glad you enjoyed the report and will be sure to let everybody know about the CD when it gets here very soon.

Buzz, my net was definitely too small. You need a good size one for those fish let me tell you .

Iceman, that was my first experience fishing Pyramid and using a ladder. I suspect a float tube would work pretty well there as well. The ladder does let you claim a certain area you can fish. I am sure there are others more experienced who could better explain the benefits of the ladder.

Best wishes to all !

Bill
