In the next few days we should start seeing Crane Flies and Wasps on and in the water. I have been working on a couple of imitations that should meet two requirements: They are durable and should attract fish. They are also fairly easy to tie. My semi-final rendition of each are:

Very nice Charlie....What material are you using for the legs
on the crane fly? It looks too fine to be pheasant.

Medallion sheeting for the wings?

Very impressive. I tied this pattern up last night. Easy and
fairly realistic.

Both links worked Eric, nice tie. I used Raffia or Swiss Straw for the wings...Medallion sheeting doesn't lend itself well for this application. The legs on the Crane fly are knotted hairs from a wild sow I shot last year. Really, really durable. Body on the Wasp rear is Black medium Rainy fly foam and the front is the same in small size.

I like the "wispiness" (if that's a word) of the legs. Now you
just have to post a picture of the fish you fooled with those
flies.

I'll hold you to it

Nice bugs, Charlie...way beyond my tying skills.
I see you are still building rods! Got any good ones in the works?

The flies are actually pretty easy since they are almost entirely made from synthetics.

No rods at the moment. My shoulder, and I'm just back from the doctor, will only get better with surgery. Plus I'm remodelling my house and ALL of my rod building equipment is in storage until after I move to Spokane.
