Does anyone know of a website with an animated direction on how to tie a whip finish knot, or any not that ties of your thread properly. I can't seem to get it from a book and my improvising doesn't go well after my flies get wet.

Sammy: Can you do a half hitch. All a whip finisher or finger finisher does is a series of half hitches secured with a half drop of cement.

To do a half hitch, grab the thread between your forefinger and thumb. Twist it and put the loop over the eye of the hook and draw tight. Repeat three or four times.

half hitches 17 Years, 7 Months ago
I have to go along with Charlie and Carpy. I never could get the hang of the whip finish. I just tie 2-3 half hitches on it with a small amount of cement and .....done! No tools needed. Takes just a few seconds.

Re:Fly tying 17 Years, 7 Months ago
Whip finishes are knot the same as multiple half hitches, at least knot the ones I tie. Kinda like the difference between a double surgeons knot and three over hand knots. :hmmm Lets knot over simplify this for Carpy's and Beerfly's sakes, sheesh.

Here is a link to a whip finish article that claims to have a video. Maybe it will help you, Sammy. http://www...isherman.com/ftb/jbwhip/

Sammy, if you are going to use multiple half hitches, try to put each one behind the the previous one.
