Re:What happened? 17 Years, 8 Months ago
Things can be changed, if people really don't want them (yes, Janet, your opinions DO count!), but the change takes time. It takes a lot of work to get all the little things about this new forum we want different fixed, and GM is pretty much the only one who can do it. I don't think that the post counts and labels have really come up as something that people particulary hated before. We appreciate all the input, and labels and post counts are probably something that can be changed fairly easily if people want it to be changed. It is something that a lot of forums like, and came as the default. All the input is important, and we want the people of the NCFFB (the most important part) to be happy!

Dano, we changed from a completely different forum to this one, and our previous one had changed a couple of times. There is no possible way to update the number of posts a person has made, because the previous forums did not count the number of posts a person made, and 10 years of posting is a lot of posts to count. Dang, it is hard to believe the NCFFB has been around that long now!

Thanks for being civil in this exchange, guys!

Hey Charlie--missed you this weekend at the Garcia. Look for a report soon (full of details that are sure to bring swarms to all those streams ). I hope your shoulder is doing better and the remodel isn't eating you alive!

I accept your apology, Charlie. I was offended by your comment regarding the comparison of knowledge because it indicated you hadn't taken the time to read my profile to "know" who I am...if you catch my drift.

As to why I posted in the first place the easiest answer would be, "because I can". Beyond that, it was to respond to her comment about the need to login to preview a member's profile.

Dawn,

I understand that there was a change; I've been following this discussion for sometime now. I've been involved in a number of forums that have changed formatts, web servers, and what not; I fully understand the feelings of the members, particularly those who have been long time posters, in regard to those changes. The flame wars that resulted were astonishing...On one board, member profiles were able to be viewed by non-registered viewers and it did create huge problems; from harvesting to trolls. I will say that I was surprised to find that unregistered folks are allowed to post here. Yet, one has to be registered to contact Admin.

Any who, I'm way beyond posting counts. What a person contributes, in my mind, is far more important than how many times a contribution is made. FWIW.

Hey Dawn, I thought I would put in my .02 because I need to get my post count up.
I really don't care about the label one way or the other but I can see how some people might not feel comfortable with it. The number of post can be good information to have as the board get a little older. It can often tell how much a person participates or if they are new. What the board really needs at this point is a lot more participation. I guess I am one of those that have not been involved of late. Of course, I have not been fishing since September and probably won't be going until June because of my schedule.

So here is my report.
The weather in Washington sucks.
The weather here in Cali is fantastic by comparison.
Montana looks like it is going to be a BIG run-off year and great for the fish as there is a lot of snow in them there mountains. Hopefully all of the rivers will be open all summer to spread out all of the people fishing.

Vertu Seal? Over on the coast is the best place. Take a big club though, some of those brutes are pretty big.

Dano, why is it important that you let us know your vast experience with boards? Ego? :hmmm

I am with Janet, Dale and Jim on this one, by the way.

Care to point out where I said I have vast experience with boards, Sport?

Everyone has an ego; mine is healthy and strong. Since you aren't registered or just too lazy to log in so you can take a quick pot shot; what does that say about yours.

I really don't care one way or the other.

I am too lazy to log in, but I am registered. I am merely illustrating that your comment about Janet's tenure on the NCFFB is very similar to your statement about about your decade long experiences with other boards. Perhaps I am the only one that sees the similarity and the irony in that.

Well, Sport, you better notify Admin.; 'cause you're not on the Member's List.

The reason no one else see's any "irony" in my reply to Dawn is because I never made the statement that you say I did.

Feel free to log in and PM me to "discuss" your problem offline.

Dano

Edit it: Never mind, Sport, I found the post you're so concerned about. See, the reason no one saw any irony there is because there isn't any. In civil conversations, by acknowledging that there is some common ground shared, empathy, it helps to convey the intended message. Which, obviously went over your head. Still, you should notify Admin., though, about you not being listed as a member. Ta

Well, Miken, that explains why you were not listed. I used Mike N, not Miken, for the search....

So, do you prefer Mike, Miken, MN, or Sport?
