...might need to take a little side trip over there - never have been there...of course I'm going for the food (almost like saying you read Playboy for the articles).

Re:Tailgater alternative? 17 Years, 8 Months ago
There are some really good places for breakfast in Pleasanton that consistently end on in some article or list.

The best ranked overall, and also the most reasonably priced, is Jim's Country Style Restaurant - 5400 Sunol Blvd - Not fancy, but a good old-fashioned American diner. They open at 6am. It is also, just around the corner from the fairgrounds.

Here is a map:

This looks like one we may actually be able to go to. We would be interested in meeting up for breakfast if that is the plan.

Are you people actually discussing breakfast at 6 AM, like in the morning????

Breakfast ought to start sometime after sunrise, preferably around noon.....

Well actually, I was thinking more along the lines of breakfast at around 9 or 9:30.

Re:Guessing Big Tippets & Big Flies in Argentina 17 Years, 8 Months ago
Frank,

I tried to ensure I have as good of coverage for a wide spectrum of situations. We will be fishing a number of spring creeks, several big river hopper/dropper type rivers like the SF of the Snake, a couple of lakes and a large river big brown situation. I got a lotto foam, as well as some of my favorite dries, nymphs and terrestrials. It is summer, so we're expecting a lot of terrestrial dry fly fishing with hoppers, beetles, ants, etc. I'm also prepared for the whole lake damsel, callebaetis, dragonfly, scud arrangement. Lastly, we hit a large brown river (Limay Medio) where we'll use a combination of big foam stuff, as well as some really ugly tung conehead black wooly buggers in size 2, which I have nicknamed the Big Black Ugly Wooly Fugger! We will think safely and ensure we're wearing a helmut to fish these. Targeting some browns in the double digit range, and just maybe as long as my leg!

The reality is, there will probably be three hot flies and I will only have 4 of them and I'll be selling them for a box of fine Cuban Cigars, or case of fine Malbec apiece!

Reports will follow!

I simply listed the time the restaurant opens so we know our options.

However, if you people want to sleep (or eat) while there is fly fishing stuff to learn and look at, that's YOUR business. I prefer to break my fast as soon as possible!

Buzz

P.S.: But I will be at breakfast or the tailgater or whatever we end up doing at whatever time we decide!

Buzz, There's ALWAYS fly fishing stuff to learn and look at - I just tend to do it late at night...

The show opens at 9am on Saturday - how about breakfast at 8:30am?...Jim's Country Style Restaurant (5400 Sunol Blvd) was suggested by Buzz - sounds good to me.
