Nope, I guess you never will understand either.

I sure hope I never reach the point of understanding or agreeing with that philosophy.

Oh, never fear. I doubt there is any chance that you are capable of that...or of understanding the essence of what I was trying to convey. Stay firmly in your little nitch where you will be eternally happy.

talk about a little nitch,,,you are talking about exclusivity and elitism. I would say my "little nitch" is far more encompassing than yours. There is no reason a law abiding sportsman with a spinning rod should not be able to cast a weighted nymph with an indicator (bobber, bubble, etc.) the same a "fly-fisherman" would. Licesnse sales are down, participation is down, excluding sportsmen from certain waters because they use different type of rod than you goes beyond sef-rightousnes.

I think Yellow Creek is also under the same restrictions. It has been a couple of years since I fished it (which bums me out). As far as the, so far, exceedingly puerile argument about the need for exclusive fly fishing waters...I believe there is no need to exclude any type of hardware or, as implied, fishing "personality". The system in place of limiting what type of bait/lure/fly makes good sense and should be effective. I have fished a number of places where I was catching fish and the spinning rig fisher fok were not. I have seen it the other way round as well...both of these in places where there were no limits on what folks were putting on the end of the line. Particularly when live bait is not involved, it is down to the skill of the operator. And that is as it should be, regardless of the equipment itself.

Here in washington there is a place called Rocky Ford Creek that is fly fishing only with fly fishing gear. The locals bring any fly rod that they can get their hands on. Then they find the biggest bobicator and ginger bunny leech and sit in there lawn chair with a cooler full of green death and just watch for the bobber to go down . This place is out in B.F.E on a dirt road. The wdfw built a parking lot with five handicapped spots and a fishing pier for the handicapped. The funny thing is I have been there three times and never seen any body parked there or using the pier.

Neither one....I wouldn't impose a limitation using artificials with barbless hooks on so designated areas as to mean fly fishing only. It is my opinion that there is a place (as evidenced by numerous other very successful streams in other states) for fly fishing with fly fishing gear only in limited areas of certain streams here in California. I would say one of the best I ever fished was the North Fork of the Umpqua in Oregon. That BT45 wanted to make a snide remark is his right. It only emphasized his limited ability to see beyond the "box" to encourage others to try fly fishing because there are special places where that art can be explicitely practiced and restricted. It is NOT restricting others from a certain place, only an effort to educate and expand the base of fly fishers. But, then again, maybe he doesn't want others to have as much fun as those who do. By the way, I am by no means a "purist" and will be soon writing long and involved posts concerning the great fishing that can be had with means other than fly gear using artificial flies.

I am not an absolute purist myself. I will only use fly gear for trout or steelhead. But, I do enjoy bass fishing with spinning gear and plastic worms with my wife. I have to be completley honest though, I kinda wish there was not as many flyfishers as there seems to be. I miss the winter solitude I used to enjoy so much........But, I live in a very populated state so I guess thats the price you pay.
As for your "Fly" only water I guess I do not get out much, I thought all of those were just "Artificials" only now? shows what I know.
