Maybe you've seen this already but Tom Stienstra has a good article to today's Chron about the Dunsmir Cafe owner who was serving poached trout last summer from you know where:

"Poached trout was on menu until cafe owner got caught"

That is GREAT news.....just shows how dumb and greedy some criminals can be. And, anyone who poaches, especially for profit, is definitely a criminal. They are really starting to get serious about fines, jail time, and confiscations concerning Abalone poaching on the coast too!!! Some of the judges have been falling in line, at last. DFG folks have always done their job up here to the best of their resources but the other end of the judicial system has failed them miserably in many cases in the past. Perhaps we are seeing a reversal of attitude about what is and is not valuable.

Good on Fiah & Game!

As for the criminal...
#$%^&* Him,
#$%^&* His Friends & Family,
#$%^&* People who owe him money,
#$%^&* People he owes money (except for the fines)

That about covers it.

Any lawyers here?? Somehow I think if he was just keeping the fish for himself he wouldnt of gotten the jail time, and only a fine of $1000 or less.

I have been to that cafe, sure had bad food :P The empty space doesnt exactly add to all the other empty buildings that are Dunsmuir tho. soon dunsmuir will be a ghost town save Ted Fay Fly Shop and a Real Estate Office

Surprised to hear everybody say they really nailed this guy.

"The case ended in January when Baker pleaded guilty to five counts of violation of the Fish and Game Code, including unlawful take, unlawful sale of trout, illegal fish in an eating establishment and littering, according to the DFG. Baker was ordered to pay $5,323, sentenced to 30 days in jail, placed on three years of probation, and banned from fishing in California or accompanying anybody fishing for three years."

You get the same or worse for having a coupe beers and driving home from said dinner....

Hey BIll (not neal)! 17 Years, 8 Months ago
Guess we'll never eat at that cafe!

Seriously, after eating all the trout my family caught while growing up. I don't eat much trout any more...maybe once a year.

They take away your fishing priveleges for driving drunk? *S*

Personally, I think DUI is a far more heinous and dangerous crime than poaching, and should be treated accordingly. Nobody's dad/husband/mom/wife/kid/etc. ever got run over by someone because they were poaching.

Now, PUI (poaching under the influence) should be the grandaddy of all crimes, punishable only by the severest measures.

I live in the city, but don't fit in,
You know it's a pity the shape I'm in.
Well, I've got no home, and I've got no choice,

LOL, how bad would it be to pay $11 for a plate of hatchery trout? I don't eat trout anyway, but yuck, white meat rainbow? This chump sold (according to the record) $660 worth of meals of some hatchery pellet eating bows. What a schmuck!
Somebody get a rope.
