I'm a little slow in posting this week. We fished the Trinity last weekend for 2 1/2 days. It was very cold the first two days and warmer on the third, even though it was snowing all morning on Monday. I think the snowy cloud cover kept it warmer. We fished three different sections from Lewiston down to Junction. They all pretty much fished the same...also pretty crowded. The fishing was hot and cold. It may have been the weather temps, boat traffic or simply a matter of finding the fish. It wasn't consistent fishing. We wouldn't catch anything for hours and then hook a few each in one hole. You'll see a few schools of fish stacked up in the frog water, but they're boring to fish and better left for the guides to bobber fish with clients.
We caught a surprising number of fish at the top of riffles, right in the shallow white part or hidden in small riffles in shallow sections. That's not the norm for us. I find most of my fish in the classic big pool or long runs.
The fish weren't picky...all the standard flies worked...all colors of copper johns, stones, princes, eggs, hairs ear and caddis. Between the two of us we landed 18 fish and lost about as many. 17 were steelhead, with one nice brown.
Good luck and tight lines...
