For many years, until recent retirement, Santa Clara County, had a County Fish and Game Warden that was also a biologist. He was full deputized and resident with the Gilroy County Sheriff's Office and did an excellent job of filling in the many gaps left by a dearth of state wardens. The County Fish and Game Advisory Commission and at times clubs would donate to fund things such as better radios and binoculars. In these days of even more severe state budget cuts, other counties should be encouraged to do likewise.
