Ice in the Guides 17 Years, 10 Months ago
Had ice in the guides for the first time this year on the Trinity this morning. Chilly cold fog over the river and it looks like winter's grip may finally be upon us up there. Felt much more like steelhead fishing this morning! Fishing was tough this weekend. There was some much needed rain that raised the river slightly, but the water was still cold and clear and didn't appear to impact the fish much, other than that low pressure shut down the bite Saturday. The water temperature dropped significantly over the past several days. It was down from 51 degrees over the weekend to a chilly 44 degrees first thing this morning. I think the easy steelheading is over for the year and now we'll have to work for every fish and bounce them on the nose to get the fish to bite. The Boat hatch was in full force below Junction City and the river remained quite crowded. I did a bit of exploring on Tuesday afternoon and found people in just about every run I came to. The guide boats were really stacked up in parts of the river. My .02 cents, I think they need to limit the number of boat on the river. It seems to be way up from past years.

But all in all, it was still great to get out. And yes, I did get the reel to sing once or twice!

Last Feb up at the Klamath, I couldn’t get more than 4 casts out before the line froze in the guides. But we didn’t see anyone else out on the water… minor trade off. A tight line or two usually warms one up.

Singing Reels 17 Years, 10 Months ago
Sounds like something the Irish and Scottish might be caught doing!

Might be a cool name for a group of Irish Fly-fishing Tenors.

when the tribe did not really need fish.

More like would be pround to be seen doing!! You almost make it sound like a bad thing

The iced guides has happened to me numerous times in South Dakota. I would cup my hands around eact one and breathe hot air (I seem to have an abundant supply) on them to free up the line. That seemed to work.
