Bear River from Colfax towards Auburn. Fishing OK? 14 Years, 10 Months ago

Is fishing allowed on the, what I think is called, Bear River, that comes down from the Colfax area and down towards Auburn? I drive over the Dog Bar bridge all the time to get out to highway 80 from Grass Valley and wondered if fishing is allowed at all.
Just curious. Seems like a nice little area to practice casting and get more familiar with the basics.
Thanks,
tj

I don't fish the Bear that often, but it can be fun. I use a three weight to make it more interesting. Any trout caught over 10" is considered a big fish.
Just recently, Didymo algae (rock snot) has been confirmed in the Bear River. After fishing, make sure to give your waders and boots (especially if they are felt soled) a thorough cleaning, so you can limit the chances of spreading it.
Bear River follows regular Sierra District rules. It will remain open until the season closes on November 15.

The Bear reportedly has big browns, (after dark), and flows though extremely rugged PRIVATE property, so on all these counts be careful

Water level is up compared to the summer flows. I think a drawdown from Rollins must be going on. But it is still fishable. You may want to consider swinging buggers or leeches with a sink tip line or polyleader. Just sayin'.
