Small flies at a distance????? 15 Years, 8 Months ago
After a considerable amount of discussion with my Primary Care physician and the opthalmologist who checks my eyes, I have decided to go ahead and have cataract surgery. It has gotten to the point where I am marginal for driving if I have to read street signs at night, I have wear a 2.5 X magnifier to tie even # 14 flies, and I can't see a # 16 on the water more than 30 feet away.

According to all the cognoscenti, cataract surgery is one of the modern miracles. I hope it works out that way.

We start Tuesday with the right eye, which is getting a single vision mid to long range implanted lens. That will be followed by an operation on the left eye [assuming no problems], which we are planning on giving a multifocal lens.

For those of you who believe in prayer [as do I ] or who don't, but pray just in case, your prayers would be appreciated. For the rest of you, kindly think some good thought about the result and my recovery. It needs to be relatively quick as I have to fish and roady [Mount Shasta] on the 29th Jan.

I'll let you know how it all goes if I remember - the damn thing starts at 0630, for cryin out loud.

Hi Ed,
My mother had that surgery two years ago at age 65. She was happy with the results. I am sure that you will, too.

Let us know how threading a size 22 is after the surgery.

Ed, you need prayers? You gottem.

From all I've heard the procedure is rather simple and easy--as long as it's on other people. Actually, I'm a candidate for cataract surgery, too, but not for a few years.

As for seeing your flies on the water, well, that's why I favor parachute adams. Even so, if a fish rises anywhere near where I think my fly might be, I set.

Good luck.

Ed:
I'm in line for that surgery, too. While it has become so common and is now done as an outpatient procedure, still, it is very frightening to have someone mess with your eyesight. I'll be thinking about you and bending good thoughts your way. Hope all goes well.

Ed....

You mean at a distance AND close up.

Crap, just fish for bigger fish using bigger flies.

Good luck Ed, I'll pray for you.

Ed,

My wife has had both eyes done due to the early onset of cataracts. She virtually lost sight with each eye as the cataracts grew. Her surgeries were very routine, and quick. In and out of surgery in about 20 minutes. Recovered at home that day and wore an eye patch for a few days along with a protective patch at night for about 10 days. Drops in each eye to avoid infection. And now she's as good as new! She's got 20/20 distance vision, but still needs reading glasses.

You'll do great. Afterwards if you can tie on size 22 flies, you can go on all my trips and be my tier on'er.

Good luck Tuesday, be thinking about you.
