Freedom Hawk standup kayaks 15 Years, 11 Months ago
I'm looking for feedback on this product. My local flyshop has put out a special price that gets me into this boat at about $1400 (including tax and delivery), which is pretty mainstream for any fishing kayak. This Freedom Hawk is a stand up fishing model that is different from the outrigger models.

I fished it once in the Delta and was very impressed. I can carry it in the back of my Tundra or load it on top of the Tundra with help from my friend. Anyway, looking for feedback, not just opinions.

Thanks. the geezer

I don't know anything about this kayak but upgrading my pontoon with ability to stand and fish was definitely worth the money

I've seen them at the sports shows, they look promising. Freedom Hawk kayaks are more popular in Florida and the Texas Gulf Coast, out in the flats. I haven't heard any negatives about them other than being heavy.

On the flip side, you can stand and fish in a Hobie Pro Angler and y-shaped pontoons are needed, but a PA is ~$2k. It is the fastest kayak I have ever been in.

Standing up in a kayak is overrated, all you need in California a super comfortable seat like a Surf to Summit Expedition and an ICE COLD BEER, unless you are sight fishing Fall River or somewhere like that.

If you got the $$$, BUY IT! and post a report on http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/

The Freedom Hawk standup was on display at the Fly Fishing Festival, held in Lodi, along with Ricki Mitchell of http://www.paddleandflies.com/ I think he could give you an excellent assessment on this particular kayak. He started using one and was pretty pleased with its performance. Ricki also has a forum on his website. I have fished with him and from one of his kayaks prior to a purchase a few years ago. I think they were discounted for the show as well. So much for hindsight on the heads up, eh?
