Was passing through the areas, so I fished an evening on each river.
East Carson - water was in good shape for this time of year. Hiked back a few miles only to find quite a few other fisherman. I did okay, with a few avg fish and lost one nice one that broke me off. The fish seemed overly selective and I wasn't doing well with matching what they were taking. Others on the river reported catching quite a few fish on small emergers, some 20+ inch fish...oddly, doing the best during mid day.
West Walker - very healthy water conditions compared to other years. Wind was howling (10-15mph), making it difficult to make good casts. No dry fly activity due to the wind. Fished nymphs and streamers, doing very well. Pretty much caught a fish or two in every hole I walked up to. Nothing of any size, all 12-15 inches, but still fun given the consistent action. At one hole I thought I had a lunker, rod bent over and couldn't raise the fish. Yelled out, "get the camera"...only to eventually bring in a 25 inch sucker! Disappointing, but still a ton of fun.
Passed through South Lake Tahoe...saw tons of Kokanee salmon in the rivers. Didn't fish for them, but thought it might be fun to go after the fresh ones at the mouth next year.
Briefly played around on one of the many creeks in South Lake and had fun catching a lot of eager brookies.
