A fishing Report 15 Years, 11 Months ago
Spent the weekend in Truckee with a good friend. We spent Friday at Sawmill Lake. Fun! Started the morning on midges, shifted to Callibaetis spinners, then duns, then terestrials and yellowjackets, then back to blood midges, and finally the little swirls in the evening chasing itty bitty stuff that I couldn't imitate. Fun day with a number of fish to hand. Spent some time sight fishing, and swore numerous times under my breath as nice rainbows rose to examine my fly pattern from very close, only to flip me the fin as they less than tactfully refused my fly. Cool stuff.

Saturday went to Stampede and fished an obscure arm of the reservoir hoping the fall spawners were in....they weren't. But saw lot's of ducks and geese and really enjoyed our visit there. A nice Callibaetis hatch going on, but no one home to intercept them. Left Stampede about 11:30 and drove to Milton Reservoir. I had this on my places to go file for many years and never had made it there. Pretty little PG&E Lake in the middle of no where. Lot's of fish in the lake, but need a little time to crack the code. I tried a number of different patterns, and finally got some consistency on a small brown midge pattern in the evening. Nothing of noteable size, but caught fish to about 12".

Headed to the Cottonwood Restaurant in Truckee for dinner to meet up with our favorite waitress, BETSY. She is an Ultra-marathon runner, and is a hoot. That morning she had done a "light" training run from Donner Summit to Squaw Valley. Crossed several peaks and passes at 8-9,000 feet elevation.......17 mile "jog"! And I was exhausted after float tubing for an afternoon! Great dinner and a nice bottle of Miss-Zin.

Very nice weekend!
