The Northern California Fly Fishing Board

I arrived at PH#2 at 4:30 on Wed afternoon. 6 to 8 folks were fishing the slot with nymphs. Lots of caddis dancing on the water. I used a elk hair caddis and caught 2 fishing the backside of the flow on the opposite side. Didn't see any fish working the hatch and I didn't see any of the nymph fishermen hook up. Weed growth looked good.

Today I hit Baum at 11:00 am. No hatches hatching. Saw one guy hook up 2 on a nymph under an indicator. Spoke with 2 guys who had fished there on Wed. They reported very slow action, but that Fall River was hot. After they shoved off another guy came in. He report that he had caught 14 that morning all on bead head nymphs. I started off with a Carey special - had 2 hits. Put on a scud pattern and hooked and lost one fish. Still no hatch at 2 pm. I kicked over to where the creek flows in. Picked up one fish on a black leech while kicking over. Switched to a caddis nymph under an indicator and fished the flow from the creek. Picked up 6 fish.

I had not fished Baum in a long time and had forgotten about the ariel show the birds put on. Large rock hitting water was an Osprey. Bowling ball hitting water was a Pelican.
