VERY limited experience, but the So Fork is supposed to be decent early. It's a tail water below Beardsley so the flow is somewhat moderated in that stretch.

North fork has some nice tribs up in the big park that's up there. Caught a few trout up there some years ago while visiting Oakdale. There are also a few spot around Knight's Ferry east of Oakdale.
