The Bash is Dead, long live the Bash.
Since only a few people decided that they wanted to partake in this year’s Bash I have called and cancelled the huge block of reservations held for the NCFFB at Hereford Ranch so those kind people will be able to rent out the spaces that would otherwise just go wanting. On a more personal note, I had first made these arrangements and felt responsible and did not want my friends there (and, yes, they have become friends over the years) to feel any misgivings about me or anyone else connected to the NCFFB because of the lack of participation.
The Bash started out small and was for a fishing get together for a few anglers who wanted to meet the faces with whom they had been corresponding on the internet. It grew into a very sizeable gathering of folks who got along famously, new friendships were forged that have survived the test of time, and many new people were introduced to each other. One important part of the Bash was the ability of spouses to meet the characters their “other halves” were in so frequent contact, sometimes smoothing the way for more fishing trips.
Not sure why but it has fallen apart. This year, same place and date. It will be a GOOF (Gathering Of Odd Friends) to which a hearty invitation is made to all, whether or not we know each other or have any other connection. If you show up, that’s great. There will be no raffle, we aren’t supporting any issues or projects, and we will bring food to share, or not, as is our decision. I will be bringing a variety of food and things to include some pretty good wine.
Make your reservations at Hereford Ranch in the regular manner. We’ll see you there, or not. I know of at least six steadfast friends who will be present for a couple of evenings of trading lies and other stories.
