Wonderful report!!!

I am curious? Where did you see the tuber armada? I experienced the same sight just below Varney Bridge, in a side channel, back in '04.
I found out from the locals that the tuber hatch is at it's heaviest, in July, in the Channels section above the lake!!

Your descriptions caused some serious itchin' to get back to the Madison!!!
