Davis Lake/Frenchman Question 16 Years, 8 Months ago
I've never been to Davis Lake nor Frenchman and might be giving one or the other a try next Tuesday.

Background: My wife and I and another couple will be playing in Reno for a few days next week. The wives will be doing their thing while Al and I will use the opportunity to go fishing. But the wives want us to bring fish home. Davis or Frenchman seem the most likely places to catch and keep. Otherwise we would go to the Truckee. My buddy might have some Nevada spots in mind, but I think I'd like to try either Davis or Frenchman.

Can you fish from the shore? I don't have a tube, but my buddy does. Are there boat rentals?

I've been reading a little as to flies: damsels, blood midges, wooly buggers, and various mayfly dries and nymphs. Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Cheers,
Harlan

I know a bit about Davis

Yes, you can fish from shore but a tube or boat is much better. I think they rent boats at the store at davis Lake. If not, rent a tube.

All those flies work, but have some rust colored wiggle tails. Floating line with a long leader or intermediate sink.

I've only fished Frenchman's once, but I used the same tactics as Davis and did well.

Good Luck

Yes you can fish from shore at Davis and this has been very productive as of late. The damsels are almost done but are still catching fish.I have been fishing sheeps creeks specials with tremendous success.Try the point and coves around Eagle point. Also a PT under a bobber has been producing if that's your game.Expect a lot of dinks but there are some larger fish in the mix.The fish are infested with copepods but are safe for consumtion.

Have fun!

Any of the fishery biologists have a cause for the copepods? Did they come from the hatcheries with them or did they pick them up in the lake?

Excellent reason for C&R.
